Here we go!

Well, here's my first shot at becoming a 'blogger'. This should be fun. Not so sure what I'm doing or where I want this to go, hence the title choice of 'Ramblings'. Reliability and consistency both are not in my dictionary when it comes to stuff like this. So hang on tight, we're in for an interesting ride, methinks.

First topic on my ramblin' trail would definitely have to be Africa...simply for the fact that I am watching a live safari camera at the moment. Seems fitting, I think. Might I direct all readers to the following URL, for a full immersion experience: http://www.africam.com. I am so ridiculously obsessed with this website, it probably borders on comical.

There is something to be said for desktop traveling. I find it to be quite engaging; knowing that you are watching something that is happening RIGHT NOW (we'll forgive streaming camera latency and time delay for the moment) in some far off, distant locale. Preferably something exotic. I love the almost-voyeurism of watching African wildlife in a natural setting, living their natural lives, drinking, playing, eating, surviving and sometimes not surviving.

It has always been a dream of mine to travel to these same exotic locations, but until that happens, I am quite content to sit here on my mum's computer with a hot cup of coffee and a warm blanket, partaking in a 'wild' safari just before heading to work. The cadence of wild avian life, the relaxed pace of grazing impala, the other-worldly distant cries of unknown birds and mammals, the surprise of what might crawl out of some bush or wander down some path next. Now if only this 'immersion' included the local temperature too. I'd kill for 84 degrees and partly cloudy. Not so much for 13 degrees with a chance of snow. Oh well....who said armchair travel was perfect?
